Rainer Sinn

Rainer Sinn is a Professor of Applied Algebra at the University of Leipzig, affiliated with the Mathematical Institute. Previously, he served as a Junior Professor at Freie Universität Berlin (2014–2019) and held postdoctoral positions at Georgia Tech and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (MPI MiS). His research focuses on real algebraic geometry and its applications to statistics, discrete geometry, and nonlinear algebra.

Education: PhD in Mathematics from Universität Konstanz (2014), supervised by Claus Scheiderer. Postdoctoral training included time at Georgia Tech and MPI MiS.

Research interests emphasize algebraic methods for structural analysis and solution existence, leveraging real algebraic geometry's practical utility. Affiliations include the Nonlinear Algebra group at MPI MiS as an affiliated member.
