Prof. Dr. Rainer Greifeneder serves as a Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Basel, where he also holds the position of Dean of the Faculty of Psychology. Based at Missionsstrasse 64A in Basel, Switzerland, he leads academic operations for the psychology faculty which was established in 2003.
His research program focuses on how individuals interpret and navigate the social world, with particular emphasis on the interplay between emotional experiences and cognitive processes. Greifeneder investigates how affective states influence judgment formation and decision-making pathways in social contexts.
As head of the Center for Social Psychology at the University of Basel, he directs research initiatives examining social cognition mechanisms and the psychological impact of social exclusion. His work on social ostracism explores both the subjective experience of being excluded and how observers perceive such social dynamics.
