Rahel Toomik is a Junior Research Fellow in Theology at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, School of Theology and Religious Studies since September 2023. She is also currently pursuing her PhD at the same institution with research focusing on "The Orations of Tartu University in the Early Modern Era (1632-1710)" under the supervision of Meelis Friedenthal and Janika Päll.
Her educational background includes:

Rahel's research spans multiple disciplines within humanities, with primary focus on theology, philosophy, and philology. Her work particularly examines early Christian texts, Renaissance philosophy, and the intellectual history of the Early Modern Era. Her Master's thesis analyzed "Virtuous and Non-Virtuous Expressions of Emotion in Didymus the Blind's Commentary on Job," while her doctoral research investigates academic orations from the historical Tartu University. She demonstrates strong expertise in Latin literature and the history of Christianity, with additional interests in the history of science and biblical studies.
Rahel has received recognition for her academic work:
- Third prize in the national student research competition in humanities and arts for her Master's thesis (2023)
- Special prize from the President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences in the national student research competition for her Bachelor's thesis on Pico della Mirandola (2020)
She is actively involved in research projects and academic organizations. She is a member of the Estonian Academic Theological Society, Morgenstern Society, and Estonian Society for the Study of Religions since 2024. She is currently working on the "Methods for the Study of Religion" project (2025-2028) funded by the Institute of the Estonian Language, and previously contributed to "The Emergence of the Biblical Book of Job on the Backdrop of the so-called Job Literature" project (2020-2024).
