Ragunathan Rajkumar is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He holds leadership roles as Director of the Metro21: Smart Cities Institute, USDOT Mobility21 National University Transportation Center, and co-director of the General Motors-Carnegie Mellon Connected and Autonomous Driving Collaborative Research Lab (CAD-CRL).

Rajkumar’s research focuses on embedded real-time systems and wireless/sensor networks, including operating systems, scheduling theory, resource management, power-efficient networking, and cyber-physical systems (CPS) security. He explores applications in autonomous vehicles, smart infrastructure, and Internet of Things (IoT) with emphasis on security and privacy.
Scientific Awards include being named an IEEE Fellow, ACM Distinguished Engineer, and recipient of the Carnegie Science Award in Information Technology. His editorial roles include the Real-Time Systems Journal and IEEE Transactions on Image Processing.
Rajkumar’s laboratory initiatives, such as the Real-Time and Multimedia Systems Lab, drive innovation in autonomous driving and smart cities. He actively engages in policy discussions as a member of the U.S. DOT Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee.
