Ragnar Øvergaard Aas is a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of History, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. He completed his PhD there in 2024 with a thesis titled 'Bound by solidarity: Norwegian activists and Chilean exiles against the junta, 1973-1990'. Currently, he holds a completion grant fellowship and teaches modern history courses.
His research focuses on transnational social movements, labor internationalism, and 20th-century political solidarity, particularly analyzing Norwegian-Chilean solidarity networks during the Pinochet regime. His work bridges labor history, Cold War studies, and memory politics.
Publications include analyses of Chile solidarity movements, Norwegian perceptions of Latin America, and historiographical critiques of 1968's legacy. He has contributed to journals like Apollon, Historikeren, and LatinAmerika, alongside academic book reviews.
Ragnar participates in projects like the Nordic Civil Societies initiative and the Critical Historiography research group, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to political and social histories.
