Rafael Valenzuela García is a Lecturer at the Department of Social Psychology and Quantitative Psychology, University of Barcelona. He holds a PhD in Culture and Heritage Management (2016) from the University of Barcelona and academic degrees from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. His research focuses on procrastination, self-regulation, and motivational dynamics in educational and leisure contexts, particularly exploring the roles of autonomy and competence needs through Self-Determination Theory. He leads the PsychoSAO Research Group in Social, Environmental and Organizational Psychology.
His teaching spans undergraduate and master's programs in Social Psychology, Talent Development, and Psychosocial Intervention. Key research projects include studies on time management during the COVID-19 pandemic, self-regulated learning, and the TIMe experience in Europe’s Digital Age. Collaborations involve institutions like the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) and the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN).
Publications highlight topics such as flow in music education, procrastination correlates with teaching styles, and psychological need satisfaction in physical activity. He advises doctoral theses like Karla Elizondo’s work on perseverance and self-regulation strategies.
