Rafael Garcia Molina is a Professor at the University of Murcia, affiliated with the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Chemistry. His research focuses on condensed matter physics, radiation biology, biomedical engineering, and recreational science. He completed his PhD at the Universitat de València in 1987 with a thesis on electron beam interactions with matter.
His research interests include energy loss mechanisms in materials, ion beam therapy applications, and experimental setups for fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. Notable contributions include studies on proton stopping cross sections, water phase effects in medical physics, and simulations of particle transport in biomaterials. He has also explored recreational physics through educational experiments and popular science publications.
Publications from 2025 highlight advancements in proton therapy dosimetry, while 2024 work addresses cortical bone radiation modeling and fluid dynamics in candle experiments. Earlier studies (2021–2023) delve into electronic excitations in metals, carbon-ion track structures in water, and biomaterial interactions with low-energy electrons.
Rafael collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, blending computational modeling with experimental physics. His work bridges fundamental condensed matter research with applied biomedical and engineering challenges. He is actively involved in science communication through outreach initiatives and educational experiments.
