Radoslava Semanová serves as Research Staff at the Institute of Ethnology, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, where she has been employed since 2015. Her academic background combines theological and anthropological perspectives on religious studies.
Education:
- Greek-Catholic Theological Faculty, University of Prešov, Department for the Study of Religions (2011)
- Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Department for the Study of Religions, Brno (2014)
Semanová's research specializes in the complex intersections of political power and identity formation under totalitarian regimes, with particular focus on socialist-era subcultures in Central Europe. Her work examines how historical trauma and political systems shape collective memory and cultural expression across generations. She approaches these topics through ethnographic methods combined with historical analysis, contributing to understandings of how ordinary citizens navigated and resisted authoritarian structures.
As a member of the research team for the VEGA 2/0086/14 project "Family histories. Intergenerational Transfer of Representation of Political and Social Changes" led by PhDr. Monika Vrzgulová, CSc., Semanová contributes to understanding how political transformations are processed and transmitted within family contexts. Her English language proficiency supports international collaboration within her field of study.
