Radhika Mittal

Radhika Mittal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), with an affiliate appointment in the Computer Science department. She is based at the Coordinated Science Laboratory, where she leads research in computer systems and networking.

Dr. Mittal completed her PhD in August 2018 from UC Berkeley, where she was advised by Prof. Sylvia Ratnasamy and Prof. Scott Shenker. She then spent a year as a post-doc at MIT, working with Prof. Mohammad Alizadeh and Prof. Hari Balakrishnan. She received her bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, India in 2012.

Her research focuses on computer systems and networking, with particular interests in:

• Traffic Engineering and Congestion Control

Dr. Mittal's recent publications demonstrate strong trends in network protocols, congestion control mechanisms, and programmable networks. Her work often addresses practical challenges in data center and wide-area networking, with several papers appearing in top-tier conferences like SIGCOMM and NSDI. She has developed innovative systems like CRAB (Customizable Receiver-driven Allocation of Bandwidth) and RadioSaber for channel-aware 5G RAN slicing.

Dr. Mittal actively mentors students and has advised numerous PhD and Master's students. She regularly teaches courses including CS425/ECE428 (Distributed Systems) and ECE/CS598HPN (High-speed and Programmable Networks).

She leads research projects including CRAB, which allows users to control how their downlink bandwidth is divided between different flows, and RadioSaber, a state-of-the-art 5G RAN slicing algorithm that achieves high spectrum efficiency and ensures weighted fairness among slices.
