Rachel Weiser serves as Assistant Professor of Modern European History in the Department of History and Foreign Languages within Jacksonville State University's College of Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. Her teaching portfolio includes Western Civilization II, The Age of the Cold War, War and Memory, Antisemitism, and Holocaust education.
Her academic credentials comprise a PhD in History from Boston University (2024), an MA in Archival Studies from Claremont Graduate University (2017), and a BA from Occidental College (2015).
Dr. Weiser's research centers on gender, labor, and socialist citizenship in modern Europe, with a focus on the German Democratic Republic. She explores how working mothers navigated and influenced socialist structures through their daily lives, challenging and reinforcing state policies across generations. Her work bridges gender history, Cold War studies, and the history of dictatorship.
Her scholarly output includes a 2025 book chapter examining gender and labor in postwar European citizenship. These publications demonstrate consistent engagement with women's agency under authoritarian regimes and the intersections of private and political life in 20th-century Europe.
She actively mentors M.A. students specializing in European, gender, and Holocaust studies and leverages her archival expertise in digital humanities projects and museum collaborations.
