Professor Rachel Webster is a renowned astrophysicist and academic at the University of Melbourne's School of Physics, leading the Astrophysics research group. She holds the title of Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor and has been instrumental in projects like the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) and the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics. Her research focuses on gravitational lensing, quasars, and the Epoch of Reionization.
Education: PhD (University of Cambridge, 1985), MSc (University of Sussex, 1980), BSc(Hons) (Monash University, 1975). Key roles include Chair of the National Committee for Astronomy (Australian Academy of Sciences), Chair of the Board of Directors at Australian Astronomy Limited, and Node Director for CAASTRO.
Research Interests: Gravitational lensing, quasar emission regions, large HI surveys, galaxy formation, and cosmology. Collaborations include the MWA, CAASTRO-3D, and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project.
