Rachel Vanneuville is a Research Fellow at the CNRS (section 40: Politics, power, organization), affiliated with the Triangle research unit (UMR 5206) at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon), Université Lyon 2, and Institut d'Études Politiques de Lyon (IEP). She specializes in legal sociology, governance, and elite education, with a focus on judicial practices, legal training, and the intersection of law and state power.
Education: PhD in Political Science (1999) from Pierre Mendès France University, Grenoble, France. Her doctoral work examined the influence of English models on republican elite formation at the École Libre des Sciences Politiques.
Research interests include legal education, the sociology of justice, elite training mechanisms, and the role of decision-making tools in judicial systems. She has led projects on legal culture, the professional identity of lawyers, and the impact of scales (barèmes) in judicial decision-making.
Administratively, she serves as an elected member and scientific secretary of CNRS section 40 (2021–2025), and on the Scientific Council of the Institute for Studies and Research on Law and Justice (IERDJ). She has published extensively in journals like Sociologie du Travail, Journal of Education and Work, and Revue Française de Science Politique.
