Rachel T.A. Croson is the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Minnesota, serving as chief academic officer for the multi-campus system and provost for the Twin Cities campus. As McKnight Endowed Professor in the Department of Economics, her research focuses on experimental and behavioral economics, including decision-making, public goods provision, and gender/cultural differences. She previously held dean positions at Michigan State University and the University of Texas, and earned her PhD from Harvard University.
Research Focus: Her work examines how people make economic decisions, identifies common errors, and develops interventions to improve outcomes. Key areas include public radio funding dynamics, negotiation strategies, and behavioral operations management.
Awards:
- Carolyn Shaw Bell Award for advancing women in economics (2017)
- Elected AAAS Fellow (2021)
Leadership: Oversees academic programs, faculty development, and systemwide strategic planning aligned with MPACT 2025 goals. She created professional development workshops for female economists and champions interdisciplinary collaboration.
