She also holds appointments as Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health - Health Policy & Organization, and as Scientist/Associate Scientist in multiple research centers including the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE) and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS).
Dr. Sinkey completed her medical degree at the University of Kentucky in 2010, followed by residency at TriHealth in Cincinnati and fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of South Florida. She is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology (2017) and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (2021).
Her research focuses primarily on hypertension and cardiovascular disease in pregnancy, maternal mortality, and decision and cost-effectiveness analyses. Her work has significantly contributed to understanding optimal management strategies for pregnant patients with chronic hypertension, including participation in the landmark Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy (CHAP) Trial.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on clinical decision-making for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, with numerous studies examining medication choices (particularly nifedipine versus labetalol), optimal delivery timing, and neonatal outcomes in pregnancies complicated by hypertension. Her research increasingly incorporates proteomic and biomarker approaches to understand the underlying mechanisms of conditions like preeclampsia.
Dr. Sinkey serves on dissertation committees for multiple graduate students in the fields of maternal-fetal medicine and public health. Her committee work demonstrates her commitment to training the next generation of researchers in obstetric medicine and health policy.
