Rachel Mills is a part-time Senior Lecturer in Animation at the University of the West of England, within the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education (Department of Film and Journalism). She joined UWE in 2006 and has over 15 years of experience in animation production for TV, web, and e-learning, including freelance work for studios like Aardman. Rachel founded Buttercup Learning in 2019, a studio focused on eco-education animations, which provides live briefs for students.
Education:
- BA Hons Visual Communication (Illustration & Animation), Glasgow School of Art (1994-1998)
- PGCE (PCET), UWE
Research Interests: Her work explores VR/AR storytelling, rapid prototyping for moving images, and educational technology. She is currently developing a groundbreaking non-fiction augmented reality children's book series in collaboration with scientists and UWE alumni.

- Selected for Natwest Back Her Business pre-incubation scheme (mentored until 2020)

Leadership & Projects: Rachel previously served as BA Animation Program Leader (5+ years) and Associate Head of Department overseeing Animation, Graphic Design, Fashion, and Interior Design programs. She spearheads live industry briefs with partners like the BBC and national charities to give students real-world production experience.
