Rachel M Gerstein

Rachel M Gerstein is an Associate Professor at UMass Chan Medical School, with affiliations across the Department of Microbiology, NeuroNexus Institute, Cancer Biology, Immunology and Microbiology Program, Interdisciplinary Graduate Program, and Translational Science at Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Rachel's research focuses on the developmental regulation of V(D)J recombination and B cell development. Her lab employs a dual reporter system using bright GFP mutants to detect antibody gene rearrangement and gene expression at the single-cell level. They also study B cell lineage commitment using 7-color flow cytometry on advanced FACS instruments.

Her publications span immunology, oncology, hematology, and molecular biology, with significant contributions to understanding B cell lymphoma, viral tropism, and age-related immune dysfunction. Key themes include tumor suppression mechanisms, macrophage phenotypic switching, and hematopoietic stem cell biology.
