Dr. Rachel Kettle serves as a Research Fellow in Systematic Reviews at the University of Salford's School of Health & Society, leveraging 12 years (2012-2024) of experience developing evidence syntheses and guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) across clinical, public health, and social care domains including Familial Ovarian Cancer, Homelessness, and Acute Coronary Syndromes.
Her educational credentials comprise a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science from Manchester Metropolitan University (1993-1996), an MSc in Sport and Human Nutrition from the University of Aberdeen (1996-1997), a PhD in Behavioral Psychology (Physical Activity and Exercise) from the University of Wales (1999-2005), and an MPH from Cardiff University (2010-2012).
Dr. Kettle specializes in methodological advances in evidence synthesis, with research addressing health inequalities through population health frameworks and public health interventions. Her work directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals for healthy lives, gender equality, reduced inequality, and climate action, emphasizing inclusive approaches for disadvantaged communities.
She currently co-leads the NIHR-funded project "Mixed Methods Evidence Synthesis for Equity" (2024-2025) identifying inclusive education interventions for early-stage chronic kidney disease management. Prior roles include Public Health practitioner work on prison healthcare needs assessments and community development initiatives reducing inequalities through sport/exercise education, supplemented by part-time lecturing in Sport and Exercise Health at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
