Ruth Cristina Martin Sanz is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Vegetable Production and Woodland Resources at Universidad de Valladolid. She is affiliated with the INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH IN SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT and contributes to the SMART Ecosystems research group. Her doctoral research (2018, supervised by Dr. Jose María Climent Maldonado) focused on the evolutionary ecology of fire-adaptive traits in Mediterranean pines.
Her research spans soil science, forest ecology, and plant adaptation to fire. Key themes include phosphorus cycling in calcareous soils, trait integration in Mediterranean conifers, and the ecological costs of serotiny (seed cone retention). She has published widely on soil analysis techniques, fire ecology, and sustainable forest management.
Recent work explores trade-offs in tree phenotypes and their implications for genetic resource management. Her methodologies include NMR spectroscopy for phosphorus characterization and field studies on post-disturbance revegetation. She actively develops educational tools like soil monoliths to promote edaphological outreach beyond academia.
