RAMANATHAN NATESH

Dr. Ramanathan Natesh is an Associate Professor in the School of Biology at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram. His teaching responsibilities include courses like Introductory Biology (BIO 111), Structural Biology (BIO 321), and Advanced Biology Lab II.

• Education: Ph.D. (2000) from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore; M.Sc. (1995) in Molecular and Crystal Physics from Christ College.

Research Interests: The NSMB Lab focuses on structural studies of protein complexes involved in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and cardiovascular disease signal transduction. His team employs Protein Crystallography and CryoEM alongside molecular biology techniques to investigate protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions.

Scientific Contributions: His 2019 book chapter highlights cryo-EM applications in drug discovery, while the 2018 Acta Crystallographica F paper details Gre factor homologue crystallization. Research explores atomic-level insights into transcription regulators and disease-related proteins.

Lab Leadership: Mentored three Ph.D. graduates (Joseph, Putta, Wahengbam), collaborated on EMBO CryoEM training courses, and integrated advanced structural biology tools into academic programs.
