R.J. Klassen is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at Western University, where he conducts research on experimental studies of rate-dependent plasticity in materials with a focus on microstructural interfaces. Dr. Klassen's research primarily focuses on understanding how microstructural interfaces such as grain boundaries and interphase boundaries affect local variations in plasticity in materials. His laboratory at Western University is equipped with High Temperature Nano/Micro-Indentation facilities, which he uses to investigate deformation behavior in various metallic systems. His work spans fundamental studies of plastic deformation mechanisms to applied research on nuclear materials and manufacturing processes. A significant portion of his research examines how materials behave under extreme conditions relevant to nuclear reactors, including irradiation effects and high-temperature deformation.
Dr. Klassen's recent publication record demonstrates consistent productivity in the fields of materials characterization, nanoindentation, and nuclear materials.
