R. Scott Gorman is a University Professor at Pittsburg State University's College of Education, specializing in the Health, Human Performance, and Recreation department. With 30 years of teaching experience, he has served as Graduate Coordinator for the Master of Science Program for 26 years. His career includes extensive leadership roles in national and regional organizations like SHAPE America and KAHPERD.
- Education: Ed.D. (Physical Education) from University of Georgia, M.A. from Western Carolina University, B.A. from Elon College
Research focuses on health-related fitness, exercise physiology, and outdoor education. He has authored 18 publications in SHAPE America journals/newsletters and delivered over 190 professional presentations. Active in academic leadership, he's held roles including Past-President of KAHPERD and SHAPE America Central District, and two terms on NASPE's Executive Board.
Recognized nationally, his awards include the Juliette Gordon Community Partnership Award (2018), NASPE Mentor of the Year (2013), and PSU Teaching Excellence Awards (2011). He also maintains community engagement through hunter education, parks advisory roles, and baseball coaching/umpiring.
