R. Bruce Wallace

R. Bruce Wallace is an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University's Faculty of Engineering and Design and an Adjunct Research Professor affiliated with Bruyère Health Research Institute. He serves as Executive Director of the AGEWELL National Innovation Hub (SAM3), focusing on sensors and analytics for aging in place. His expertise spans signal processing, data analytics, and healthcare technology. Dr. Wallace holds a Ph.D. from Carleton University, an M.Eng. from Carleton, and a B.E.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario, alongside a P.Eng. license and Senior Member status in IEEE.

His research focuses on innovative smart home technologies to support aging populations, including sensor-based monitoring systems, cognitive health assessment, and assistive vehicle technologies. Key projects include the SAM3 initiative, which integrates multi-disciplinary teams to develop solutions for independent living. He co-authored the book *Supportive Smart Homes: Their Role in Aging in Place* and holds 24 patents in telecommunications and healthcare systems.

Dr. Wallace’s work emphasizes collaboration with industry, clinical partners, and end-users to bridge technology development and real-world applications. His speaking engagements span academic, industry, and public audiences, advocating for age-friendly technology adoption. His research has been published in journals like IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, with a focus on sensor technologies, health monitoring, and driver safety for older adults.

Current affiliations include leadership roles at SAM3, Bruyère Research, and Carleton’s ARISE Lab, where he oversees projects such as the SAM3 Smart Apartment and Virage Simulator.
