Professor Dr. R. Alexander Lorz is the current Hessian Minister of Finance (since January 2024) and a prominent legal scholar. He previously served as Minister of Culture for Hesse (2012–2024), President of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder (2019–2024), and held academic roles including Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (2012–2014). His research focuses on public law, international law, and European legal frameworks. Lorz obtained his LL.M. from Harvard Law School and has held various state and federal legal roles, including positions as State Secretary in Hesse's Ministries of Culture and Science (2000–2014). He actively participates in governance boards of institutions like Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen and the Vietnamese-German University, balancing academic and governmental responsibilities.
