Qun Lu is a Professor and SmartState Endowed Chair in Neurotherapeutics at the University of South Carolina's McCausland College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. His work focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms of neurological diseases and developing novel therapies using chemical biology and genetics. He leads research into small GTPase signaling in Alzheimer's disease and ALS, employing advanced imaging, AI/ML, and pre-clinical models.
- Education: M.S. (1992), Ph.D. (1993) from Emory University; Postdoc at Harvard Medical School (1997).
Research interests include Rho/Rab GTPase dysregulation, homeostatic modulators, super-resolution microscopy, and translational drug development. His labs specialize in Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry.
Notable awards include the NIH Director’s Transformative Research Award (2021) and the National Academy of Inventors Inductee (2012). His work bridges basic science and clinical applications, targeting neurodegenerative diseases through innovative therapeutics.
- Labs: GSRC 324-327 (Molecular/Cell Biology), 326 (Biochemistry), 327 (Medicinal Chemistry).
