Associate Professor Quan Gan holds academic positions at the University of Sydney Business School's Department of Finance. He earned a B.Eng. in Computer Science from Tsinghua University, an MAS in Quantitative Finance from ETH Zurich and University of Zurich, and a PhD in Economics from UNSW. His research focuses on asset pricing (derivatives), behavioral finance, and real estate markets. He advises USYD's CFA Research Challenge teams (2022 Asia-Pacific and 2023 global champions) and leads the MCom (Finance) program's CFA Institute affiliation. Notable awards include the 2023 Student Life Enhancement Award and 2024 USS Teaching Award, alongside grants like Strategic Education Grant (SEG) and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grant (SoTL).
His research spans derivatives markets underreaction to tail risk, real estate presale dynamics, and attention spillover effects in financial markets. Recent work includes analyzing idiosyncratic risk term structures in housing markets and risk-sharing mechanisms in Hong Kong real estate. He serves as an associate editor at Asia-Pacific Financial Markets and holds the CFA designation.
