Qin Xin

Qin Xin is a Professor of Computer Science and Faculty Research Leader at the Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the Faroe Islands. He has extensive international experience with previous research positions at Universite Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), Simula Research Laboratory (Norway), and University of Bergen (Norway).

His educational background includes:

• PhD in Computer Science from University of Liverpool (awarded December 15, 2004)
• Master's degree from University of Liverpool (awarded September 9, 2002)

Professor Xin's research focuses on the design and analysis of sequential, parallel and distributed algorithms for communication and optimization problems in wireless networks. His work extends to cryptography and digital currencies including quantum money, as well as combinatorial optimization with applications in Bioinformatics, Data Mining, and Space Research. His research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections across computer science, mathematics, and practical applications.

Analysis of his recent publications (2023-2025) reveals a significant shift toward fuzzy logic applications, decision-making systems, and cryptographic techniques with practical implementations. His work bridges theoretical computer science with healthcare diagnostics, sustainable industry evaluation, and secure communications. Notably, there's a growing trend in applying mathematical frameworks to solve real-world problems while maintaining strong theoretical foundations.

Professor Xin has served on editorial boards of more than ten international journals and has been actively involved in numerous conferences as a session chair, technical program committee member, and symposium organizer. He notably served as Organizing Committee Chair for the 17th and 18th Scandinavian Symposium and Workshops on Algorithm Theory (SWAT 2020 and SWAT 2022) held in Torshavn.
