Qimiao Si is the Harry C. and Olga K. Wiess Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University, affiliated with the Wiess School of Natural Sciences. He earned his B.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China (1986) and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago (1991). His research focuses on theoretical condensed matter physics, particularly strongly correlated electron systems, including quantum criticality, iron-based superconductivity, and topological metals. He has pioneered theories such as local quantum criticality and the Weyl-Kondo semimetal state, advancing beyond Landau’s framework.
Key achievements include contributions to understanding magnetic heavy fermion systems, iron-based superconductors, and topological states driven by electron correlations. He has published over 215 articles in top journals and delivered 370+ invited talks. Awards include the Humboldt Research Prize (2012) and Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship (2023). He has organized major conferences, including SCES’07 and Aspen Winter Conferences on High-Temperature Superconductivity.
His work bridges quantum criticality and superconductivity, with recent studies exploring nematicity in FeSe, orbital-selective Mott transitions, and topological semimetals. He serves on editorial and advisory boards, including the Aspen Center for Physics and Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter.
