معرفی
Dr. Puni Jeyasingh is a Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at Oklahoma State University (OSU), serving since 2021. Her research focuses on atom-first biology, an approach that quantifies elemental compositions of biosystems to understand biological processes at the systems level. This framework integrates principles from bio-inorganic chemistry, geochemistry, and evolutionary biology to explore ecological and evolutionary dynamics.
Education & Training:
- PhD in Biology (2007), University of Oklahoma
- MS in Zoology (Murray State University) and Ecology (Salim Ali School of Ecology, India)
- BS in Zoology (Madras Christian College, India)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Minnesota System (Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior)
Research Interests:
- Elemental stoichiometry and its role in ecological and evolutionary processes
- Ionome analysis to study organism-environment interactions
- Evolutionary responses to environmental change (e.g., eutrophication, pollution)
- Resurrection ecology to study microevolutionary trajectories
Key Themes in Publications:
- Impact of elemental supplies (N, P, Fe) on algal blooms and consumer fitness
- Genetic basis of stoichiometric traits in Daphnia and other organisms
- Applications of ionomics to understand adaptation and stress tolerance
Labs & Collaborations: Leads the Lab of Atom-First Biology, focusing on interdisciplinary methods to quantify elemental data across scales. Collaborates with institutions globally on projects related to biogeochemistry and eco-evolutionary dynamics.
