Projit Bihari Mukharji is an Associate Professor in the Department of History & Sociology of Science at the University of Pennsylvania. His academic roles also include adjunct appointments and membership in interdisciplinary groups like the Graduate Group in South Asian Studies.
Education: PhD from the School of Oriental & African Studies (University of London), MPhil and MA from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and BA from Presidency College, Calcutta.
Research Interests: Focus on postcolonial technoscience, colonial medicine, indigenous medical traditions, and subaltern science. Current projects explore race science in 20th-century South Asia, histories of chemistry in Bengal, and intersections of science with the supernatural.
Publications: Authored major works such as Nationalizing the Body (2009), Doctoring Traditions (2016), and Brown Skins, White Coats (2022). His research spans race, genetics, colonial medical practices, and the material culture of science.
