Priti Shah is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, with secondary appointments in the School of Information and the Marsal Family School of Education. She also serves as a Faculty Associate at the Research Center for Group Dynamics, Institute for Social Research. Her research focuses on cognitive and educational psychology, particularly in visual data comprehension, working memory, and executive functions. Shah leads the Basic and Applied Cognition Lab, exploring how to overcome limitations in complex cognitive tasks such as managing multiple goals and integrating information.
Education: Ph.D. in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.
Research interests include visual display comprehension (e.g., graphs, diagrams) in education and science, and improving working memory and executive functions. She has contributed to interventions for data literacy, ADHD hyperfocus assessment, and inclusive STEM education through programs like STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research).
Notable awards include the Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship (2022) for excellence in teaching and the Psychonomic Society Best Article Award (2022). Her work addresses challenges in scientific reasoning, pandemic communication, and educational equity.
