Prince Afriyie

Prince Afriyie is an Associate Professor of Data Science and Program Director of the M.S. in Data Science Residential program at the University of Virginia's School of Data Science. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Statistics from Temple University, an M.A. in Mathematics from Ball State University, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Northern Kentucky University.

His research spans multiple comparisons, survival analysis, statistics/data science education, genomic data analysis for cancer detection, and statistical risk modeling for heart failure in collaboration with UVA Health Cardiology. Research interests include:

• Advanced hypothesis testing methodologies
• Statistical applications in genomics and healthcare
• Pedagogical approaches to data science
• Machine learning in clinical decision support

His publications reflect interdisciplinary work across statistics, agriculture, and medicine, with recent focus on interpretable ML for cardiac risk prediction.
