Preston Culbertson is an incoming Assistant Professor at Cornell University's Department of Computer Science (starting Fall 2025) and currently a Research Scientist at The AI Institute. His research focuses on enabling robots to achieve human-like agility and robustness through the integration of machine learning, computer vision, and control theory, particularly in contact-rich tasks like manipulation and locomotion.
His academic background includes a strong foundation in robotics and control systems. Culbertson has published extensively on topics such as dexterous manipulation, stochastic safety, multi-robot systems, and space robotics. Notable achievements include the Outstanding Paper Award at the CoRL Workshop on Dexterous Manipulation (2024) and the Best Manipulation Paper Award at ICRA 2018.
