Prakash Chandra Mondal

Prakash Chandra Mondal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Liberal Arts at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. He holds a PhD in Linguistics/Cognitive Science from IIT Delhi (2014), preceded by an MA in Linguistics from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad (2008), and a BA in English from the University of North Bengal (2006).

His research sits at the intersection of language, cognition, and computation, focusing on theoretical problems such as the relationship between formal-logical and cognitive representations of linguistic meaning, syntactic discontinuity, embodiment in language-thought relations, and the computational nature of semantic structures. Recent work explores unifying frameworks for continuity/discontinuity in linguistic representations and reconciling cognitive and formal approaches to semantics.

He serves on the Editorial Advisory Panel for HSS Communications, a Nature journal, and leads the Linguistics and Cognition Lab at IIT Hyderabad. His publications include five books and over 70 peer-reviewed articles, many addressing the tension between formal and embodied approaches to linguistic theory.
