Professor Poupak Mehrani holds a position in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering. She serves as Associate Chair for Graduate Studies and has a PhD from the University of British Columbia (2005). Her research focuses on multiphase reactor engineering, particularly gas-solid fluidized beds, with emphasis on electrostatic charge generation, biomass gasification, and CO2 capture technologies. She has supervised multiple graduate students and teaches courses in unit operations, process design, fluid flow, and particulate systems.
- Education:
- BASc in Chemical Engineering (2000) - University of British Columbia
- PhD in Chemical Engineering (2005) - University of British Columbia
- Affiliations:
- Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE)
- Vice President, Electrostatic Society of America (ESA)
- Editorial Board Member, Journal of Electrostatics (Elsevier)
Her research explores energy and environmental challenges through advanced reactor engineering and electrostatic mitigation strategies in industrial processes. She has published extensively on topics like CO2 capture, biomass conversion, and fluidized bed dynamics. Current projects address electrostatic charging in polymer processing and CO2 sequestration methods.
Teaching responsibilities include core chemical engineering courses such as CHG 4244 (Plant Design Project), CHG 3111 (Unit Operations), and CHG 2312 (Fluid Flow). She actively contributes to academic governance through her role as Associate Chair and maintains industry collaborations through her research partnerships.
