Polly Winfield

Polly Winfield is a Lecturer and Postgraduate Research Student in the Department of Social & Policy Sciences at the University of Bath. She is affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Violence and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to justice, peace, and strong institutions. Her PhD research focuses on navigating memories of violence and injustice in South African sites like Hillbrow and Constitution Hill.

Her research explores intersectional, affective, and spatial dimensions of remembering violence in transitional societies, emphasizing participatory methodologies. Recent work includes a 2023 article on diasporic memory practices online, reflecting her focus on digital spaces and contested histories.

Current projects involve contested memory and postcoloniality, alongside past involvement in the EU-funded DisTerrMem project (2019–2023). She holds FHEA accreditation and teaches qualitative methods, human rights, and transitional justice.
