Dr. Polly McGuigan is Head of Department for Health at University of Bath, with expertise in neuromuscular biomechanics and rehabilitation technology. She holds a PhD in Anatomy and Biomechanics from Royal Veterinary College and BSc in Zoology from University of Bristol. Her research investigates neuromuscular control of locomotion, age-related changes in muscle mechanics, and technologies for musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Current projects include: 1) Muscle-tendon interaction in dynamic tasks for injury prevention, 2) Age-related changes in muscle architecture and recruitment, and 3) Assistive technologies for rehabilitation. Her work has applications in sports science, physiotherapy, and prosthetics development.
McGuigan leads multidisciplinary projects including spinal injury analysis in horseracing and development of intelligent prosthetic ankles. She coordinates the Centre for Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA 2.0), a £5M EPSRC-funded initiative.
