معرفی
Dr. Piyel Haldar is a Senior Lecturer at Birkbeck Law School, University of London, specializing in colonial history and post-colonial legal theory. His monograph Law, Orientalism and Postcolonialism examines how Orientalist thought shaped colonial legal systems, particularly through concepts of despotism and justice. He previously served as managing editor of Law and Critique and sits on the editorial board of Law and Humanities.
Haldar's research explores the intersections of law, aesthetics, and colonial power structures. Current interests include the visual mediation of legal arguments, sovereignty concepts in Vedic traditions, and zoological jurisprudence. His doctoral thesis examined evidence law through courtroom architecture and rhetorical traditions.
Publications demonstrate consistent engagement with legal Orientalism across historical periods, analyzing how cultural representations influenced the development of colonial legal systems. Recent work examines evidentiary practices through visual culture and forensic representation.
Supervision includes doctoral projects on colonial criminality constructions, racialized legal subjects, property relationships, and copyright metaphysics.
