Piran Kidambi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University's School of Engineering. He leads the Kidambi Research Group, focused on scalable nanomaterial synthesis for energy, membranes, catalysis, and healthcare applications. His work bridges in-situ metrology, process engineering, and materials science to design novel materials.
Education: Ph.D. in Engineering (University of Cambridge), M.S. in Process Engineering (ETH Zurich), and B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli).
Research interests include atomistic control in nanomaterial synthesis, scalable production processes, and functional system integration. Key areas are nanoporous graphene membranes for water purification, proton exchange membranes for fuel cells, and carbon nanotube-based biomedical devices.
Publications highlight advancements in 2D materials, such as h-BN films and graphene-based membranes, with applications in energy storage, water treatment, and medical technologies. Awards include the NSEF Young Investigator Award for contributions to atomically thin membranes.
Collaborations span academic and industrial partners, with affiliations to Vanderbilt's VINSE, Interdisciplinary Materials Science Program, and Data Science Institute. The group seeks motivated candidates across disciplines for research projects in nanomaterials and engineering.
