Piotr Pawel Jaholkowski is a Researcher at the Centre for Precision Psychiatry, University of Oslo. His work focuses on genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying psychiatric and neurological disorders, with a particular emphasis on uncovering the genetic architecture of conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, and autoimmune disorders. He investigates gene-environment interactions, polygenic risk scores, and the implications of genetic findings for precision medicine.
His research interests include psychiatric genetics, neuroimmunology, and the developmental origins of mental health conditions. He has contributed to studies exploring the genetic overlap between major depressive disorder and immune-related biomarkers, as well as the role of vitamin D in schizophrenia risk. His work bridges molecular biology, epidemiology, and clinical psychiatry.
Publications: His recent articles highlight the genetic underpinnings of psychiatric disorders, autoimmune diseases, and neurodegenerative conditions. Key themes include genetic overlap between psychiatric and immune-mediated disorders, the impact of environmental factors on genetic risk, and the application of genomic data to improve diagnosis and treatment strategies. Notable contributions include studies on juvenile idiopathic arthritis epidemiology and the shared genetic basis of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive traits.
Labs/Teams: He is part of the Precision Psychiatry research group at Oslo University Hospital, collaborating with international teams on large-scale genomic studies. His work integrates multi-omics data to understand complex disease mechanisms.
