Piotr Dumała (born July 9, 1956 in Warsaw) is a renowned Polish professor of film art at The National Film School in Łódź, where he has served as a lecturer since 1984. As one of Poland's most distinguished animation artists, he has received numerous prestigious awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Valencia International Animated Film Festival and the Special Award "Dragon of Dragons" at the Krakow Film Festival.
With a background in conservation of stone sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Dumała has developed a unique visual style that blends traditional artistic techniques with innovative animation approaches. His filmography spans over four decades, featuring both his own directorial works and extensive artistic supervision of student films. His creative output demonstrates a consistent exploration of existential themes, visual metaphors, and experimental animation techniques.
