Pinar Kayaalp is a Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern History at Ramapo College of New Jersey's School of Humanities and Global Studies, where she has taught since 2008. Her office is located in B-215, and she holds office hours on Tuesdays/Fridays (1:30-2:30 PM) and Wednesdays (10:00-11:00 AM). She earned her B.A. from Bryn Mawr College (1995), M.A. from the University of Chicago (1997), and Ph.D. from Harvard University (2005).
Her research specializes in the Ottoman Empire (1450-1750), with interdisciplinary focus areas including:
- Islamic legal systems and gender dynamics
- Architectural patronage and religious foundations
- Cross-cultural interactions in frontier regions
- Historical healthcare institutions
- Analysis of court records and endowment deeds
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on Ottoman socio-legal structures, particularly through analysis of primary sources like court archives and architectural inscriptions. Recent work examines healthcare systems, gender representation in legal contexts, and cultural mediation in borderlands.
