Pinar Gümuş Akar serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aviation Management at Gaziantep University's Faculty of Aviation and Astronautics, Turkey. She has held academic positions at the university since 2008, progressing from Lecturer to Doctor Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in 2022.

Her research focuses on the intersection of aviation management, sustainable development, and macroeconomic theory. Key interests include environmental economics within transportation systems, climate change mitigation strategies, economic growth modeling in aviation contexts, and development economics with emphasis on Mediterranean and BRICS economies. She employs advanced econometric methodologies including MMQR and nonlinear modeling to analyze CO2 emissions, air transport liberalization effects, and export-led growth hypotheses.
Recent publications reveal a strong trend toward sustainable aviation research, with 7 of her 13 most recent works (2016-2024) examining environmental impacts of air transport. Her scholarship bridges theoretical economics with practical aviation policy, particularly focusing on Turkey's aviation sector while expanding to BRICS and APEC economies in her latest work.
