Pilar León Sanz is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Humanities and Medical Ethics at the School of Medicine, University of Navarra. She has held leadership roles, including Head of Department of Biomedical Humanities (2002-2009), and serves on multiple committees such as the Medical Ethics Committee of Navarra (since 1999) and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the University of Navarra (since 2000).
- Education: MD (1983) from Complutense University of Madrid; PhD in Medicine (1989) from University of Navarra
Her research focuses on the intersection of medical history, bioethics, and cultural studies, with a particular emphasis on 18th-century Spain. She has contributed to courses on medical ethics, research ethics, and patient rights. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary ethical challenges in healthcare.
She has served on editorial boards for Revista de Medicina de la Universidad de Navarra, Trauma, and Cuadernos de Bioética. Her international collaborations include a Visiting Scholar role at Harvard University (2011) and a Senior Research Fellowship at the Wellcome Trust Centre (2010).
