Pietro Bontempi serves as a Temporary Assistant Professor at the Department of Engineering for Innovation Medicine at the University of Verona, specializing in Physics for Life Sciences, Environment, and Cultural Heritage (PHYS-06/A) with research focus on Physics of biological systems (PE3_16).
His research interests center on neuroimaging, including structural diffusion MRI and functional imaging techniques (EEG, fNIRS, functional MRI), as well as perceptual analysis through cognitive science methods. Bontempi's work aims to gain a holistic view of the human brain through integration of multi-modal, multi-scale probing and modeling. His research employs advanced computer vision and pattern recognition methods to design numerical biomarkers for characterizing healthy and pathological conditions.
Bontempi is an active member of the Biomedical Imaging Group, which focuses on Experimental and Translational Biomedical Imaging with expertise in Magnetic Resonance and Optical Imaging. The lab is equipped with a Bruker Biospec 4.7 T MRI Tomograph and PerkinElmer IVIS Spectrum Optical Imaging system.
His teaching portfolio includes Electromagnetism and Optics, Physics for Medicine and Surgery filter courses, and previously Programming I and Physical Sciences and Statistics. He serves on multiple departmental committees including the PhD Council for Intelligent Systems Engineering, Information Engineering Teaching Committee, and the Department Council for Engineering for Innovation Medicine.
