Recent publications explore Salafi juridical treatises, Sufi mysticism, and modern challenges to traditional exegetical methods. Coppens actively engages in public discourse through podcasts and media, addressing topics like anti-Semitism, spiritual care, and deathbed narratives in Islamic traditions.
He teaches courses on Arabic readings, Islamic philosophy, and interreligious hermeneutics. His projects include leading research on Salafi Quranic interpretation and contributing to imam professionalization programs in the Netherlands. Future work includes studies on Islamic approaches to dying and the historical dynamics of religious emotions.
