Rutgers, The State University of New Jerseyمعرفی
Piers Coleman is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers University, part of the School of Arts and Sciences. He is a leading figure in condensed matter theory and quantum science, with expertise in heavy fermion systems, superconductivity, and topological materials. His research explores quantum criticality, Kondo physics, and fractionalization in correlated electron systems.
He holds the Simons Fellow in Theoretical Physics and contributed to groundbreaking work on hastatic order in URu2Si2 and quantum criticality in twisted bilayer graphene. His theoretical insights have been experimentally validated in studies of strange metals and topological superconductivity.
Coleman is affiliated with the Rutgers Center for Materials Theory and teaches advanced courses on many-body physics and solid-state theory. His textbook Introduction to Many-Body Physics (CUP, 2016) is widely adopted in graduate programs.
Research interests include quantum materials, emergent phenomena in correlated systems, and the interplay of topology and magnetism. His work bridges theory and experiment, with notable contributions to understanding superconductivity, Kondo lattice physics, and quantum phase transitions.
Coleman collaborates extensively with experimental groups and has been recognized for his mentorship, as highlighted in his roles as a Simons Fellow and collaborative leadership in theoretical physics.
