Pierre Jacquot

Pierre Jacquot is an Honorary Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), associated with the School of Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His career includes roles as a full professor (1996–2003) and earlier positions in Civil Engineering, Physics, and Microtechnology. He developed pioneering research in optical metrology techniques like holographic interferometry and speckle metrology.

• Education: Master’s in Physics (1970), PhD in Physics (1973) from the Université de Franche-Comté.
• Research Focus: Optical diffraction elements, numerical interferogram analysis, digital speckle interferometry, fringe projection methods, and laser-based structural deformation analysis. Recent work includes mesoscopic optical trapping and aggregation.
• Key Projects: Co-initiated the Eureka VISILAS project for large-structure deformation analysis. Organized the 2000 international conference on speckle interferometry.
• Teaching: Taught specialized courses in applied optics across institutions like the École Supérieure d’Optique (Orsay) and the University of Franche-Comté. Currently holds honorary teaching roles in the School of Engineering.
• Labs: Founded deformation analysis labs at EPFL, later transferred to the Department of Electrical Engineering (now the Laboratory of Nanophotonics and Metrology).
