Pierre Fraigniaud

Pierre Fraigniaud is a CNRS Research Director at the Institute for Research in Fundamental Computer Science (IRIF), jointly affiliated with CNRS and Université Paris Cité. He leads the Distributed Computing group at IRIF and serves as co-chair of the national research group GdR IFM (Fundamental Computer Science and its Mathematics). Previously, he directed LIAFA and IRIF (2010–2017) and was Deputy Director of LRI at University Paris-Saclay (2003–2006).

His research focuses on the design and analysis of distributed algorithms, particularly for networks and asynchronous, failure-prone systems. He applies algebraic topology to understand distributed computation, bridging theoretical computer science with mathematical foundations. His work spans parallel computing, data structures for networks, and dynamic network models.

Pierre Fraigniaud has held editorial roles in top journals including Distributed Computing, Theory of Computing Systems, and Information and Computation. He has chaired program committees of major conferences such as PODC, DISC, SPAA, ICALP, and IPDPS, reflecting his leadership in the distributed computing community.

He has advised numerous PhD students and leads the ANR Project DUCAT. He also co-founded and leads the CoA Working Group, fostering collaboration in distributed algorithmic research. His administrative leadership includes directing major research laboratories and chairing European COST Actions.

He is based at the Sophie Germain Building, Université Paris Cité, where he continues active research and mentorship in theoretical computer science.
