Pierre Assenmaker is a Professor at the Université de Namur, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Classics and Ancient History. He holds a Doctor of Language and Literature degree from the Université Catholique de Louvain (2010). His research focuses on Roman history, numismatics, and ancient textual heritage, with a particular emphasis on imperial legitimacy, coinage analysis, and classical literature preservation.
Research Interests: Dr. Assenmaker investigates the political and religious foundations of Roman imperial power, Roman coinage during civil wars, and the cultural transmission of classical texts. His work bridges numismatic studies with historical analysis, emphasizing the material evidence of ancient power dynamics.
Recent Projects: He leads/co-leads projects such as Reading in full, reading in pieces. Medieval Florilegia and the Circulation of Latin Classics (2024–2027) and Coin and imperial legitimacy under the Early Roman Empire (2023–2025). These explore medieval textual practices and the role of coinage in Roman political communication.
