Pierre Albin is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on geometric analysis, particularly analytic representations of topological invariants, analysis on non-compact or singular spaces, spectral geometry, heat kernels, and Dirac operators. He holds a PhD from Stanford University (2005) and has held postdoctoral positions at MIT, NYU/IAS, and Paris before joining UIUC in 2011.
Education: PhD in Mathematics from Stanford (2005); Licenciatura en Matemáticas Aplicadas from ITAM, Mexico (2000).
Research Interests: Albin’s work addresses geometric analysis on singular spaces, spectral invariants, and microlocal techniques. His publications include studies on index theorems, Cheeger-Müller theorems, sub-Riemannian limits, and analytic torsion in degenerate settings. His recent articles emphasize geometric analysis on pseudomanifolds and fibered cusp manifolds, reflecting his expertise in bridging topology and analysis.
Advising and Grants: Albin has advised PhD student Melinda Lanius (2018) and collaborates widely. He organized conferences such as a 2019 MSRI semester on Microlocal Analysis and a 2016 BIRS workshop on geometric and spectral methods in PDEs.
Labs/Teams: Active in the UIUC Mathematics Department, contributing to research groups in analysis and geometry.
